My friend Dawn and I have been friends for 30 years. We have known each other since before we went to school.
I can’t tell you how many hours we used to run around the old neighborhood together, riding our bikes, running through sprinklers, and chasing the ice cream truck. We wore a canal into Dawn’s front lawn every summer from hours of throwing ourselves down the slip and slide. Those were the days.
They were the days when we thought that at this age we’d have it all figured out. We’d be living the dream, loving our jobs, and gallivanting through life like we didn’t have a care in the world. Yep, we were dumb.
Dawn is the type of friend that I know so well, I can show up on her doorstep unannounced after life has kicked me in the fanny. She would think nothing of it if I showed up ugly, disheveled, crying, or just plain pissed off. I know this for a fact because I’ve done it and she was there.
I am so blessed in my life that I have a couple of friends like this, who accept me raw and real, put together or a hot mess, whichever way I happen to be that day. Thanks you guys, you make life fun and worth all the trouble that it is.
I want to share with you a darling gift that Dawn put tougher for me just recently when I was down in the dumps. It really picked up my spirits, and I think any friend in need of a pick me up would love this gift. It’s a Sweet Dreams Bucket.
You start with a sign. Now, Dawn is an artist, so she made this darling sheep for me and put it on kebob skewers so it stood up in the gift basket. Most people are not as talented artistically as Dawn is. A simple sign would still work fine in this gift, but look how cute this is.
The sheep even has blood shot eyes because it’s sleep deprived. So dang cute it makes me cry.
Dawn got a red ice bucket (red to match my kitchen) and filled it with all kinds of cute things to help me get a good night’s rest.
She put in a cute nightgown.
She added a box of hot chocolate and some scrumptious snacks.
She put in a coffee mug with an adorable knitted sweater cozy and some Zquil to help me sleep.
And then the sweetest part of all, she added things to make me laugh. I had given Dawn a kit last year that I found at TJ Maxx. It was called a “Monster Kit” and it came with all the materials to make your own little monster. I thought it was the cutest, silliest thing and I included it with her Christmas Gift. She made that little monster for me, scented it with lavender, and included it in my gift.
She also included a fuzzy worm toy and a solar powered bobble head turkey.
The great thing about good friends is that they know what will make you lift your head out of the depths of despair and smile. You would probably feel a bit silly giving a stranger a make your own moster kit, but I didn’t blink an eye in giving it to Dawn, and she knew that making it for me and giving it back would make me feel special and give me a much needed giggle.
What could you include to make your friend feel better? The possibilities are as unique as your friendship.
Here’s what my little bucket looked like when it was given to me.
When I talk so much about doing the little things in life for people that really matter, this is the type of thing I am referring to. They say, “I care enough to spend time on you and to let you know that you matter.”
It just made me cry and it did help me sleep better that night.
Your Sweet Dreams Bucket can contain anything you want, but I bet no matter what you chose to include inside it, it will help your friend hit the pillow knowing someone cares about her. Thanks Dawn!
Night night, all. Sweet Dreams!
